The Lenten Tree – ‘Thirty Pieces of Silver’

The Lenten Tree – ‘Thirty Pieces of Silver’

Now the Passion story takes an unexpected turn. On our Lenten Tree, we have already placed the towel and basin which are symbols of Jesus’s servant ministry; the bread and wine – symbols of the body of Christ given for all people, are met today with . . . betrayal.

The betrayal of someone Jesus loved. The Old Testament explains that 30 pieces of silver was the price of a slave – the price at which Christ is valued here. However, this betrayal is met by the faithful obedience of Christ who displays how much we are worth to Him – Christ values you and I as priceless.
