Revd Gordon Newton

Minister

Biography

Gordon retired from the “active” ministry several years ago having served for 40 years in 7 different circuits, two in the Midlands, two in the North of England, two in the South and one in London.

At Methodist Central Hall, Westminster he serves on a part-time basis and is here every Wednesday and once a month on a Sunday.   His main focus is overseeing arrangements for the weekly Lunchtime Service which aims to attract local workers. He is the member of the ministerial team who regularly attends “Wednesday at Westminster” and also organises a series of “God at Work” forums each year, encouraging people to consider different ways in which our Christian faith relates to the daily work scene. Gordon also does some pastoral work and is a member of the team which scrutinises the Tithe applications received each year.

Two years ago he was asked to undertake a part-time appointment in the Dover & Deal circuit at a time of staff shortage.   This has proved to be an interesting time of taking pastoral responsibility for a church going through a time of transition with a building scheme that has opened up new possibilities for mission to the local community.

Gordon is married to Elaine. They enjoy time with their 4 children and 10 grandchildren.  For recreation he enjoys playing piano and organ.

Testimonials

MCHW is a welcoming family community! My son loves the youth program. My wife enjoys worshiping in the choir. Teaching is encouraging, challenging and profound. There is a growing men's fellowship, and it is great to catch up with friends and visitors over coffee after the service.

Testimonials

I was once spiritually somewhat exhausted but MCHW helped to reinvigorate my spiritual well being. I became church Steward in 2011 and two years later was invited to become Circuit Steward. What makes me proud to be part of MCHW is the great service and the love that resonate from the congregation.

Testimonials

Methodist Central Hall is not just a beautiful building, it’s home. At The Sanctuary, our young adult fellowship, I’ve found a place of welcome, friendship, creativity and spiritual depth.

I love Sunday morning Holy Communion services; seeing our truly diverse church family come together in worship, with Christ at the centre."
