Celebrating 50 Years of the Methodist Concordat

Celebrating 50 Years of the Methodist Concordat

From Friday 10 to Sunday 12 August, senior representatives, members and officers from The United Methodist Church in the USA met in London with their counterparts from the Methodist Church in Great Britain to celebrate the formal link between these two Churches, known as the Concordat.

On Sunday, 12th August the celebrations of 50th Anniversary of the Concordat concluded during Morning Worship here at Methodist Central Hall Westminster.  The service was led by Superintendent Minister Revd Dr Martyn Atkins and the preacher was Bishop Ken Carter.  The service was live streamed to the Methodist Church of Great Britain’s Facebook page, and can be found below.

Revd Dr Martyn Atkins said, ‘MCHW is always delighted and privileged to be the venue for good and significant events. So we’re thrilled that representatives of the United Methodist Church and Methodist Church in Britain came here to reflect upon the continuing nature of a ‘Concordat’ first made between the Two Methodist denominations in 1968. I hope and pray that the consequences of the conversations continue to give focus to The People Called Methodists as they continue to seek to be those who seek to proclaim the Love of God in Jesus Christ and work for the transformation of the world for good.’
